Gear Tooth Materials & Heat Treatments Any gear spindle coupling component, operating for the torque transmission, is manufactured from special alloy steel and is head treated. Each coupling component is made from special alloy steel and treated for optimal hardness and wear resistance:
- TYPE A – X38CrMo V51 SGNG: Core hardened, heavy-duty nitriding, surface hardness >1100 Hv
- TYPE B – 18 NiCrMo5 CHG: Case hardened, surface hardness >625 Hv
- TYPE C – 31CrMo12 SGN: Hardened, gas nitriding for deep hardness, surface hardness >750 Hv
- TYPE D – 42CrMo4 NGN: Hardened, normal gas nitriding, surface hardness >550 Hv
- TYPE E – 42CrMo4 IHT: Hardened, full contour induction hardening, surface hardness >550 Hv
Gear Couplings :
We offer nitroxidation (N.O.) treatment on our standard GO-A gear couplings made of AISI 1045, upon request. This treatment not only limits surface corrosion but also enhances surface hardness and wear resistance, significantly increasing the service life of gear teeth, even under high misalignment and rotational speeds.
Unless otherwise specified, our gear couplings are carefully packaged based on their dimensions, weight, and required transport/storage conditions. To prevent oxidation, interface surfaces are typically protected with a wax coating of TECTYL 506 EH. The raw or semi-finished surfaces of spacer tubes are sandblasted, primed with an acrylic coat, and finished with two layers of epoxy, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 100–120°C.
We can also apply custom coatings on demand to meet specific operational requirements. The torque capacity and maximum operating speed of a gear coupling depend on the total shaft misalignment during installation.
Proper selection of gear couplings should consider operating data including load, speed, application type, nominal and maximum load capacity, nominal speed, static and dynamic misalignments, and the maximum permissible bore.
